Normothermic ex-vivo kidney perfusion Solution -Toronto is a specialized preservation and perfusion fluid developed by the University Health Network (UHN) in Toronto for use in normothermic ex vivo machine perfusion (NEVKP) of donor kidneys. Unlike traditional static cold storage, this solution is designed to be used at physiological temperatures (37°C) to maintain the metabolic activity of the kidney outside the body. The solution typically contains a combination of oxygen carriers (often packed red blood cells), electrolytes, nutrients, and medications to support organ function, allow for viability assessment, and potentially repair injury sustained during the donation process. It is primarily investigated for its ability to improve outcomes in high-risk donor kidneys and reduce the incidence of delayed graft function (DGF) in recipients with end-stage renal disease.
