Overview

Nortase is an oral enzyme replacement therapy used to treat exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI), a condition where the pancreas does not produce enough digestive enzymes. Unlike traditional pancreatic enzyme products derived from animal sources, Nortase contains acid-stable, plant-based rizoenzymes—specifically lipase (from Rhizopus oryzae), protease, and amylase (both from Aspergillus oryzae). These enzymes begin digesting food in the stomach due to their acid stability, improving nutrient absorption and alleviating symptoms such as bloating, flatulence, diarrhea, and abdominal pain after eating. Nortase is suitable for vegetarians and those who cannot tolerate porcine-derived pancreatin. It is primarily indicated for patients with EPI due to chronic pancreatitis or following partial/total pancreatectomy[1][2][8].
