Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Norwalk VLP vaccine is an investigational, monovalent **intranasal virus-like-particle vaccine** for prevention of norovirus acute gastroenteritis caused by the Norwalk virus genotype GI.1. The clinical formulation contained Norwalk VLP antigen adjuvanted with monophosphoryl lipid A and mucoadhesive chitosan, with mannitol and sucrose excipients. It is designed to generate mucosal and systemic Norwalk-virus-specific immunity, including serum IgG and IgA, antigen-specific antibody-secreting cells, and B-cell memory. LigoCyte developed the candidate before its acquisition by Takeda; completed Phase 1 and Phase 1/2 human challenge studies evaluated intranasal administration in healthy adults.
