Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Novalucol is an over-the-counter (OTC) antacid medication primarily used for the symptomatic relief of heartburn, acid reflux, and dyspepsia. It is a combination product typically containing calcium carbonate and magnesium hydroxide as its active ingredients. These substances work by chemically neutralizing excess hydrochloric acid in the stomach, thereby increasing gastric pH and reducing irritation of the esophageal and gastric mucosa. Originally part of the BioPhausia AB portfolio, the brand was sold to Meda AB in 2010 for approximately USD 28 million as part of BioPhausia's strategic refocus on prescription pharmaceuticals. Following subsequent corporate acquisitions and mergers, the product is now part of the Viatris portfolio. It is commonly available in chewable tablet and oral suspension formats.
