Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A type of vaccine used to prevent COVID-19 that contains SARS-CoV-2 virus particles that have been grown in culture and then killed (inactivated) using chemical means, such as beta-propiolactone. These vaccines, often produced in Vero cells, present the entire viral structure to the immune system, including the spike, membrane, envelope, and nucleocapsid proteins. They are typically formulated with an aluminum-based adjuvant to enhance immunogenicity. This platform has been the basis for several widely used vaccines, including those developed by Sinopharm and Sinovac, which have received emergency use listing or full approval in numerous countries.
