The novel coronavirus inactivated vaccine (Vero cells) is a type of vaccine designed to protect against COVID-19. It is an inactivated virus vaccine, meaning it contains SARS-CoV-2 viral particles that have been killed and are unable to cause disease. These inactivated viruses are grown in Vero cells, a cell line commonly used for vaccine production. Upon administration, the vaccine introduces these inactivated viral particles to the immune system, which then recognizes them as foreign and mounts an immune response, including the production of antibodies. This prepares the body to defend against future infection by the live SARS-CoV-2 virus. Many formulations of this vaccine also include an adjuvant, such as aluminum hydroxide, to enhance the immune response. Prominent developers and manufacturers of such vaccines include Sinopharm and Sinovac.
