Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Novel lipophagy-activating compound (specifically represented by the lead candidate 2726.007, also known as Lipophagy inducer 1) is a small molecule designed to treat diabetic kidney disease (DKD) and other lipid metabolism disorders. Developed by researchers at the University of Miami School of Medicine, Florida International University, and Truvitech, the compound was identified via phenotypic screening of a combinatorial library of over 45 million unique small molecules. It acts by selectively inducing lipophagy (the autophagic degradation of lipid droplets) in podocytes, thereby reducing lipid droplet accumulation, preventing lipotoxicity, and rescuing podocytes from cell death. In preclinical studies using db/db mice, the compound significantly prevented the progression of DKD, as evidenced by reduced albumin-to-creatinine ratios (ACR) and decreased pathological renal damage.
