Novel oral poliovirus vaccine (modified) is a live-attenuated vaccine candidate being developed by Codagenix for the prevention of poliomyelitis. The vaccine is engineered using Codagenix's proprietary codon deoptimization technology, which involves recoding the viral genome with numerous synonymous mutations to reduce the efficiency of viral protein synthesis. This process results in a virus that is antigenically identical to the wild-type poliovirus but possesses significantly reduced replication fitness and a lower risk of reverting to a neurovirulent state compared to traditional oral poliovirus vaccines (OPV). By maintaining the ability to induce robust mucosal immunity while enhancing safety, this modified nOPV aims to support global efforts in polio eradication. The program is currently in the preclinical stage of development.
