Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Novial is a branded combined oral contraceptive consisting of ethinyl estradiol and the progestin desogestrel, formulated in a 28‑day regimen with 21 active tablets and 7 placebo tablets for continuous cycle control.[1][11][9] As with other estrogen–progestin pills, it primarily prevents ovulation by suppressing gonadotropin secretion, thickens cervical mucus to inhibit sperm penetration, and induces endometrial changes that reduce the likelihood of implantation.[11][9][17] It is indicated for contraception and is part of the desogestrel/ethinyl estradiol family of products marketed in various countries under different trade names.[5][11][14]
