Overview

Novicrit is a recombinant human erythropoietin biologic containing epoetin lambda produced in Chinese hamster ovary cells engineered to express the human erythropoietin gene. It acts as an erythropoiesis-stimulating agent by binding to and activating the erythropoietin receptor, thereby promoting red blood cell production in a manner comparable to endogenous human erythropoietin. The product was registered in Australia in January 2010 and has been used for anemia associated with chronic kidney disease including dialysis, chemotherapy-induced anemia in patients with non-myeloid malignancies, anemia in patients undergoing elective surgery with expected moderate blood loss, and myelodysplastic syndromes.
