Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**NOVOCART Disc plus** is an autologous disc-chondrocyte cell therapy developed by TETEC for repair of lumbar intervertebral discs following sequestrectomy for lumbar disc herniation and, where present, treatment of an adjacent degenerative disc. The product consists of a patient's own expanded disc-derived chondrocytes administered by intradiscal injection approximately 90 days after the initial surgery. Its intended regenerative mechanism is local engraftment and redifferentiation of transplanted disc chondrocytes to produce cartilaginous extracellular matrix, thereby supporting restoration or preservation of disc tissue and potentially reducing post-surgical disc degeneration. It was evaluated in the randomized NDisc Phase I/II study, NCT01640457 and EudraCT 2010-023830-22. ([clinicaltrials.gov](https://clinicaltrials.gov/study/NCT01640457))
