Overview
NOVOCART Inject plus is an Advanced Therapy Medicinal Product (ATMP) developed by TETEC AG for the treatment of focal cartilage defects in the knee. It is a two-component, in situ cross-linkable albumin-hyaluronan-based hydrogel system designed for matrix-associated autologous chondrocyte implantation (M-ACI). The product consists of in vitro culture-expanded autologous articular chondrocytes (2-8 million cells per mL) suspended in a solution containing modified human albumin (maleimido-albumin), isotonic sodium hyaluronate, human serum, and cell culture medium. Upon injection into the cartilage defect, the components form a bioresorbable hydrogel that anchors the seeded cells within the lesion without the need for additional fixation, promoting the repair and regeneration of damaged articular cartilage tissue. It is currently being evaluated in Phase III clinical trials for efficacy and safety in patients with focal cartilage defects of the knee joint.
