Novokid is a non-toxic, pesticide-free medical device system designed for the treatment of head lice (pediculosis capitis). Developed by TechCare Corp, the system utilizes a proprietary delivery mechanism that vaporizes a natural, acetic acid-based substance into a specialized treatment cap worn by the patient. The mechanism of action involves the dry vaporized acetic acid dissolving the chitin-based adhesive glue that secures nits (lice eggs) to the hair shaft, while simultaneously disrupting the respiratory system of adult lice through dehydration and suffocation. This physical mode of action prevents the development of chemical resistance, which is a significant challenge with traditional neurotoxic pediculicides such as permethrin. The treatment is typically administered in a short session (approximately 10 minutes) and is marketed as a clean, easy-to-use alternative to traditional liquid shampoos and lotions.
