Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Novosis rhBMP-2 is a bone graft substitute product that incorporates recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein-2 (rhBMP-2) into a dual-carrier system consisting of hydroxyapatite granules, beta-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) microspheres, and a poloxamer 407–based hydrogel, forming an injectable, moldable putty engineered for sustained local release of rhBMP-2 and high-density bone formation.[5][7][9] The rhBMP-2 active ingredient, mass-produced by Daewoong Pharmaceutical and also known internationally as nebotermin, is an osteoinductive growth factor that binds BMP receptors on mesenchymal stem cells and other progenitors to drive osteoblastic differentiation and bone regeneration.[5][7][9] Developed by CGBio, Novosis rhBMP-2 (marketed as NOVOSIS PUTTY) is being advanced primarily for spinal fusion and treatment of challenging bone defects and nonunion fractures, with preclinical studies demonstrating superior fusion rates, denser bone formation, and reduced ectopic bone and soft-tissue swelling compared with collagen sponge–based rhBMP-2 delivery systems due to its controlled-release profile.[5][7]
