Drug intelligence / Profile preview
NovoTissues is a 3D bioprinted, transplantable human liver tissue developed by Organovo Holdings for the treatment of serious liver diseases, including Alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency (A1AT). The therapeutic consists of architecturally correct human liver cells, including hepatocytes, stellate cells, and endothelial cells, organized into a functional tissue patch. This biologic approach aims to provide sustained production of essential proteins and metabolic functions that are deficient in patients with genetic liver disorders. The program has received Orphan Drug Designation from the FDA for the treatment of A1AT and has demonstrated preclinical safety and efficacy in animal models.
