Drug intelligence / Profile preview
NovRD is a first-in-class small molecule drug developed by NovMetaPharma for the treatment of chronic kidney disease (CKD). It functions by inhibiting kidney cell death and reducing inflammation in kidney tissue. The drug's mechanism of action is centered on the inhibition of Cyclophilin D (CypD), a protein that regulates the mitochondrial permeability transition pore (mPTP). By preventing the opening of the mPTP, NovRD protects mitochondrial integrity and prevents the initiation of cell death pathways, such as apoptosis and necroptosis, in renal cells, thereby slowing the progression of CKD.
