Overview

NOX5 siRNA is a small interfering RNA (siRNA) designed to silence the expression of the NADPH oxidase 5 (NOX5) gene. NOX5 is a calcium-dependent enzyme that generates reactive oxygen species (ROS), such as superoxide, which act as signaling molecules in various cellular processes, including proliferation and survival. In the context of oncology, particularly in melanoma and esophageal adenocarcinoma, NOX5 expression is often elevated. Silencing NOX5 via siRNA leads to a reduction in ROS production, which in turn modulates downstream signaling pathways like Akt and GSK-3β, ultimately increasing the levels of the cell cycle inhibitor p27Kip1 and inhibiting tumor cell growth.
