Overview

Noxa peptide is a cell-permeable peptide derived from the BH3 domain of the pro-apoptotic protein Noxa (PMAIP1). It functions as a BH3 mimetic that selectively binds to and inhibits the anti-apoptotic protein Mcl-1. By sequestering Mcl-1, the peptide releases pro-apoptotic proteins such as Bim, which then initiate the mitochondrial pathway of apoptosis. Research indicates that Noxa peptide can overcome multicellular resistance in 3D tumor spheroids of lung cancer and mesothelioma, particularly when used to sensitize cells to other chemotherapeutic agents or BH3 mimetics like ABT-737. It is primarily used as a research tool to study apoptotic priming and the Bcl-2 family repertoire in various cancer models.
