Drug intelligence / Profile preview
NP 06-1 is a dietary supplement formulated as a combination of two botanical extracts: *Phellodendron amurense* bark and *Citrus sinensis* peel, standardized to contain berberine (from Phellodendron) and polymethoxylated flavones (PMFs, from citrus). It has been evaluated in randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trials for its effects on osteoarthritis of the knee and cardiovascular risk factors. Mechanistically, NP 06-1 exerts **anti-inflammatory actions** (partly via berberine, which inhibits inflammatory cytokines and mediators such as prostaglandin E2, IL-12, tumor necrosis factor-alpha, IL-6, CRP, and haptoglobin) and has been shown to improve metabolic parameters, including reducing triglycerides, LDL cholesterol, blood pressure, fasting glucose, and promoting weight loss. Its use has primarily targeted osteoarthritis and metabolic syndrome, with demonstrated safety over at least 8 weeks of use in adults[1][3][5].
