NP-50301 is a small molecule ophthalmic therapeutic developed as a topical eye drop formulation of an estrogen ester compound. Its primary mechanism of action is as an agonist of estrogen receptor. The drug was developed for the treatment of post-menopausal Dry Eye Syndrome (DES) and xerophthalmia. Development was led by Nascent Pharmaceuticals and Xiamen Nanxun Co., Ltd. Clinical development reached up to Phase 2 trials but has since been discontinued[1][2][3].
