Drug intelligence / Profile preview
NP-MP1 is a first-in-class, inhalable peptide therapeutic targeting **heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF)**. It consists of proprietary Mimetic Peptides encapsulated in calcium-phosphate nanoparticles, which are further embedded within mannitol-based microparticles for deep lung delivery. Administered via inhalation, NP-MP1’s nano-in-micro formulation enables selective uptake into alveolar spaces, from which nanoparticles transit into the bloodstream and are ultimately absorbed by cardiomyocytes. The Mimetic Peptide acts intracellularly to modulate **L-type calcium channels (LTCCs)**, correcting their trafficking and restoring physiological channel function. Preclinical studies have demonstrated restoration of cardiac contractility, improvement in ejection fraction, reversal of cardiac remodeling, and reduction in pulmonary congestion. The formulation is disease-modifying and designed for rapid, non-invasive delivery to the heart, aiming to address the molecular root cause of HFrEF, and has shown good tolerability in animal models[1][2][3][4][5][6][8][9][10].
