Overview

NP2 Enkephalin is a gene therapy utilizing a replication-defective herpes simplex type 1 virus (HSV-1) vector. It is engineered to deliver and express the human preproenkephalin gene directly to the site of pain. The therapeutic mechanism involves the increased local production of enkephalin peptides, which subsequently bind to opioid receptors to modulate pain signaling. This drug has been investigated in clinical trials for the treatment of intractable cancer pain.
