Overview

NP201 is a code name associated with two distinct investigational drug candidates. One is a biologic therapy developed by NGM Biopharmaceuticals, in collaboration with Merck & Co., for the treatment of metabolic diseases including type 2 diabetes, obesity, and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). This candidate, later known as NGM313 and subsequently MK-3655, is a monoclonal antibody that acts as a selective agonist of the FGFR1/Klotho-beta receptor complex to improve insulin sensitivity and lipid metabolism. The second NP201 is a candidate developed by NuPathe (acquired by Teva Pharmaceutical Industries) for Parkinson's disease. This version utilizes NuPathe's proprietary Long-Acting Delivery (LAD) technology, consisting of a biodegradable subcutaneous implant designed to provide continuous, long-term delivery of the dopamine agonist ropinirole, aiming to reduce motor fluctuations and "off" time in Parkinson's patients.
