Overview

NP202 is an experimental small molecule drug, specifically a synthetic flavonol, developed for the treatment of left ventricular systolic dysfunction following myocardial infarction. It acts as a cardioprotectant and has been investigated for its ability to inhibit pathological cardiac remodeling by targeting inflammatory and apoptotic processes in the heart. In animal models, NP202 improved left ventricular systolic function and attenuated hypertrophy and fibrosis after chronic myocardial infarction. The drug was developed by Armaron Biosciences (formerly NeuProtect), with clinical trials conducted in patients post-ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). Despite promising preclinical results, phase II clinical trials did not demonstrate significant improvement in left ventricular remodeling compared to placebo[4][5][8].
