NP339 is a novel synthetic polyarginine peptide antifungal agent developed by NovaBiotics. It exhibits rapid fungicidal activity against a broad spectrum of clinically relevant fungal pathogens, including Aspergillus spp., Candida spp., Cryptococcus spp., Mucorales, and drug-resistant organisms such as Candida auris. Engineered from endogenous host defense peptides, NP339 acts by targeting the fungal cell membrane through charge-dependent interactions that cause cell lysis. This mechanism is distinct from existing antifungal classes and results in a differentiated safety profile with low toxicity to mammalian cells and no observed resistance development in vitro. Preclinical studies have demonstrated its efficacy in systemic and mucocutaneous models of invasive fungal disease (IFD), particularly for immunocompromised patients.
