Overview

NP432 is a synthetic linear peptide antibacterial drug candidate developed by NovaBiotics. It belongs to a novel class of immune-based antimicrobials designed to combat multi-drug resistant bacterial infections. The peptide is approximately 2 kDa in size and comprises both polar and nonpolar aromatic residues. Its mechanism of action involves enhancing cell membrane permeability in bacteria, leading to rapid bactericidal activity. Notably, it demonstrates efficacy against Gram-negative bacteria such as Acinetobacter baumannii and some Gram-positive bacteria including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). Unlike traditional antibiotics, its activity is agnostic to the metabolic or drug-resistance status of the target pathogen and aims to circumvent off-target pharmacology[1][2][7][9].
