Overview

NPJ5008 is a novel formulation of dantrolene sodium, developed to shorten preparation and administration times compared to the standard dantrolene formulation, Dantrium. It is used for treating malignant hyperthermia, a rare life-threatening pharmacogenetic disorder that occurs in response to volatile anaesthetic agents. NPJ5008 acts as a postsynaptic skeletal muscle relaxant by stabilizing defective ryanodine receptors in the sarcoplasmic reticulum, thus preventing the release of calcium ions necessary for muscle contraction.
