Overview

NPSP156 is a proprietary small molecule D-serine analog developed by NPS Pharmaceuticals. It acts as an endogenous ligand at the glycine binding site of the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor, functioning as a co-agonist to modulate excitatory neurotransmission. The compound was nominated as a candidate for preclinical development in 2006 for the potential treatment of various neurological disorders. However, NPS Pharmaceuticals did not advance the drug into clinical development and instead sought to out-license the compound, resulting in its status as an inactive or discontinued preclinical asset.
