NPT001

NPT001 is an experimental protein-aggregate–clearing agent originally developed by NeuroPhage Pharmaceuticals (later Proclara Biosciences) as a potential disease-modifying therapy for neurodegenerative diseases characterized by misfolded protein aggregates, including Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. Preclinical studies reported that a single administration of NPT001 in aged transgenic Alzheimer’s model mice led to clearance of both β-amyloid plaques and tau aggregates with associated behavioral improvement, while separate Parkinson’s disease models showed significant reduction of alpha-synuclein deposits and restoration of dopaminergic neuron function.[1][3][5][12] The program is based on a protein disaggregation platform designed to target and clear existing pathological aggregates rather than solely preventing their formation, positioning NPT001 as a broad-spectrum anti-aggregate agent aimed at modifying the underlying disease process in multiple proteinopathies.[1][5][12][14]
