Overview

NR222 is a lyophilized mRNA vaccine candidate developed by Namixin (Shanghai) Biotechnology for the prevention of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection, specifically targeting adults aged 60 and older. Utilizing mRNA technology, the vaccine encodes for a viral antigen, typically the RSV fusion (F) protein, to stimulate a robust protective immune response. A distinguishing feature of NR222 is its lyophilized (freeze-dried) formulation, which is designed to enhance the product's thermal stability. This formulation potentially allows for storage and transport at standard refrigeration temperatures, addressing the significant cold-chain logistics challenges associated with conventional liquid mRNA vaccines that require ultra-low temperature storage. It is currently being evaluated in Phase II clinical trials to assess its safety and immunogenicity.
