NRG Therapeutics' mPTP backup series consists of structurally differentiated small-molecule inhibitors targeting the mitochondrial permeability transition pore (mPTP). These compounds are being developed as follow-on assets to the company's lead candidate, NRG5051, for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases including Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), Motor Neuron Disease (MND), and Parkinson's disease. Designed to be orally bioavailable and CNS-penetrant, these molecules aim to provide neuroprotection by preventing mPTP opening, a process linked to mitochondrial dysfunction, cell death, and neuroinflammation. The program is currently in the discovery and preclinical stages of development.
