Overview

NRG5051 is a first-in-class inhibitor of the mitochondrial permeability transition pore (mPTP) being developed by NRG Therapeutics. This novel small molecule is designed to penetrate the brain when taken orally and has shown promising results in preclinical studies for neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's disease and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). The drug works by inhibiting a novel protein essential for mPTP opening, thereby protecting mitochondrial function and preventing neuronal cell death. In preclinical models, NRG5051 has demonstrated neuroprotective properties and significantly reduced neuroinflammation observed in these diseases.
