NRO-VTN is a preclinical-stage monoclonal antibody being developed by Neuroptika for the treatment of dry age-related macular degeneration (dry AMD). The drug specifically targets vitronectin (VTN), a glycoprotein that is a major component of drusen—the extracellular deposits that accumulate beneath the retina and serve as a hallmark of AMD. By binding to vitronectin, NRO-VTN aims to inhibit the formation and accumulation of drusen, thereby modulating the inflammatory and complement-mediated pathways (involving factors like CFH and CFI) that drive disease progression. This therapeutic strategy is designed to prevent early-stage AMD from advancing and to preserve vision in patients with dry AMD, for which there are currently limited treatment options.
