NRX-001

NRX-001 is a small molecule Nurr1 activator being developed by NurrOn Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. Nurr1 (Nuclear receptor related 1 protein) is a transcription factor essential for the development and maintenance of dopaminergic neurons and plays a critical role in regulating neuroinflammation. NRX-001 works by enhancing Nurr1's dual therapeutic functions: increasing the transcriptional activation of dopaminergic-specific genes and promoting the transrepression of neurotoxic proinflammatory gene expression. By targeting these pathways, NRX-001 aims to provide neuroprotection and mitigate the neuroinflammatory processes associated with the progression of Alzheimer's disease. The candidate is currently in the discovery stage of development.
