Drug intelligence / Profile preview
NS001 is an intranasal powder formulation of naloxone hydrochloride developed by Nasus Pharma for the emergency treatment of known or suspected opioid overdose. It utilizes the proprietary Nasax powder-based intranasal (PBI) platform, which delivers the drug as uniform spherical microspheres to the nasal mucosa. This delivery system is designed to achieve faster absorption and higher systemic concentrations in the critical first minutes following administration compared to traditional liquid nasal sprays like Narcan. As a competitive antagonist at the mu-opioid receptor, naloxone reverses the respiratory depression and sedative effects of opioids. While NS001 successfully completed a pivotal Phase 3 trial demonstrating superior pharmacokinetics to liquid naloxone, its development was subsequently placed on hold by Nasus Pharma as the company prioritized its lead epinephrine candidate (NS002).
