Overview

NSC 228155 is a small molecule that acts as an activator (agonist) of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR). It is primarily used as a pharmacological research tool to study EGFR-mediated signaling pathways and their downstream biological effects. In experimental models of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), NSC 228155 has been utilized to demonstrate that EGFR activation can lead to increased intestinal epithelial tight junction permeability and a reduction in the expression of tight junction proteins such as occludin. Unlike many clinical EGFR-targeted agents which are designed as inhibitors, NSC 228155 promotes EGFR phosphorylation and kinase activity, making it a valuable tool for probing the pathophysiology of conditions where EGFR overactivation or signaling dysfunction is implicated.
