Drug intelligence / Profile preview
NST0076 is a third-generation neuroprotective small molecule developed by Neuron Bio, a Spanish biotechnology company. It is a statin derivative designed to penetrate the blood-brain barrier efficiently. Unlike traditional statins, its mechanism of action is unrelated to cholesterol modulation; instead, it exhibits anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective, and antiepileptic properties. Preclinical studies have shown that NST0076 protects against neuronal death and neuroinflammation, particularly in hippocampal models of excitotoxic damage, demonstrating superior neuroprotective effects compared to simvastatin. It is currently being investigated for the treatment of Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), Fragile X Syndrome (FXS), Alzheimer's disease, and epilepsy.
