Overview

NT-1021 is an investigational small-molecule activator of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) that was initially developed by NovaTarg Therapeutics as a kidney-selective agent for diseases characterized by dysregulated cellular metabolism, such as autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease and potentially oncology indications.[1][9] In preclinical studies, NT-1021 activated AMPK in human ADPKD cells, leading to inhibition of mTOR-mediated cell proliferation and transepithelial chloride secretion, consistent with a mechanism of normalizing aberrant growth and transport signaling in renal epithelial cells.[1] The compound is described in pipeline databases as an AMPK agonist with development status listed as pending and no active clinical trials disclosed, suggesting it remains in early-stage or preclinical development.[9]
