**NT-1195** is a novel **small molecule biguanide** developed by **NovaTarg Therapeutics** as a more potent analog of metformin for **type 2 diabetes**. It acts as an **AMPK agonist**, exhibiting superior potency in activating AMPK in adipocytes, myotubes, and hepatocytes (EC50 values 10-100x lower than metformin), inhibiting hepatic glucose production (EC50 32 nM vs 285 μM for metformin), and suppressing lipolysis. Preclinical data show a longer half-life (>24 hours vs 3.7 hours for metformin), improved bioavailability, and blood glucose reduction comparable to high-dose metformin in animal models.
