Drug intelligence / Profile preview
NT-501 is an intranasal formulation of riluzole being developed by Nano PharmaSolutions for the emergency treatment of traumatic brain injury (TBI). The drug utilizes the company's proprietary Nano-CNS™ platform and NanoTransformer® technology, which employs a physical vapor deposition (PVD) process to create nano-coated drug particles on hydrophilic excipients under ultra-high vacuum without the use of solvents or polymers. This formulation is designed to provide rapid, direct delivery to the brain via the olfactory and trigeminal pathways, potentially bypassing the blood-brain barrier to reach therapeutic levels within the "golden hour" (the first hour following an incident) to mitigate secondary brain injury. Riluzole, the active ingredient, is a small molecule neuroprotective agent known to modulate glutamatergic signaling and inhibit voltage-gated sodium channels.
