Overview
NU206 is a recombinant human R-spondin1 protein developed as a potent growth factor for gastrointestinal (GI) epithelial cells. It acts by modulating the Wnt signaling pathway, which is essential for the maintenance, repair, and regeneration of the intestinal lining. Originally developed by Nuvelo in collaboration with Kyowa Hakko Kirin, NU206 was investigated for the prevention and treatment of chemotherapy- and radiation-induced mucositis, as well as inflammatory bowel diseases like Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. While the drug successfully completed Phase 1 clinical trials in 2008 demonstrating a favorable safety profile and predictable pharmacokinetics, its development was halted following the merger of Nuvelo with ARCA Biopharma in 2009.
