Overview

NuAreatin (SH1010337) is a small molecule GPCR19 agonist being developed by Shaperon and its subsidiary Hudson Therapeutics for the treatment of alopecia areata. It represents a novel therapeutic approach as the first alopecia areata candidate to target the G protein-coupled receptor 19 (GPCR19). The drug acts as an inflammasome inhibitor by modulating the GPCR19-P2X7 pathway, which suppresses the production of a broad range of pro-inflammatory cytokines, including IL-1β, IL-18, IL-6, and TNF-α. By controlling both the priming and activation phases of the inflammasome, NuAreatin aims to provide superior anti-inflammatory efficacy compared to existing treatments like JAK inhibitors. Preclinical data has demonstrated a 74% hair recovery rate, significantly outperforming current standards in animal models.
