Nubao

Nubao is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) product, typically formulated as capsules, that is widely used in China for the treatment of male sexual dysfunction, including erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation, as well as symptoms associated with 'kidney yang deficiency.' The formulation is characterized by a complex mixture of animal-derived components, such as the penises and testes of various species (e.g., ox, deer, dog), and herbal extracts including *Epimedium* and *Cinnamomum*. While it is a registered pharmaceutical product in China, Nubao has gained international notoriety due to numerous regulatory alerts from agencies such as the FDA and Health Canada, which have identified batches adulterated with undeclared synthetic phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE5) inhibitors like sildenafil. Its legitimate therapeutic effects are attributed to the presence of natural PDE5 inhibitors like icariin and purported androgenic properties of its animal-derived constituents.
