Overview

Nuclear factor kappa B subunit 1 (NFKB1) small interfering RNA is a molecular tool used to silence the expression of the NFKB1 gene, which encodes the p50 subunit of the NF-kappaB transcription factor complex. In research settings, particularly concerning inflammatory diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, this siRNA is employed to investigate the role of NF-kappaB signaling in cellular processes such as differentiation and cytokine production. By degrading the target mRNA through the RNA interference (RNAi) pathway, the siRNA effectively reduces p50 protein levels, allowing researchers to observe the resulting phenotypic changes, such as the inhibition of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-1 and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) production in bone marrow-derived cells.
