Overview

NuGel (HY209) is a topical small molecule therapeutic developed by Shaperon and its subsidiary Hudson Therapeutics for the treatment of atopic dermatitis. It functions as a G protein-coupled receptor 19 (GPCR19) agonist, which triggers a signaling cascade that inhibits the activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome. By suppressing the inflammasome, NuGel reduces the maturation and release of pro-inflammatory cytokines, including IL-1β and IL-18, thereby alleviating skin inflammation and pruritus. The drug is currently being evaluated in Phase 2 clinical trials as a potential non-steroidal topical treatment option for patients with moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis.
