Overview

Nurofen refers to a range of ibuprofen formulations developed by Reckitt Benckiser, designed for the treatment of pain, inflammation, and fever. As a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), the active ingredient ibuprofen works by inhibiting the cyclooxygenase enzymes COX-1 and COX-2, which are critical for the biosynthesis of prostaglandins that mediate pain and inflammatory responses. Reckitt Benckiser has specifically focused on developing advanced delivery formats, such as ibuprofen lysine and ibuprofen sodium salts, as well as liquid-filled capsules. These formulations are engineered to provide faster disintegration and systemic absorption compared to standard ibuprofen acid, thereby facilitating a more rapid onset of analgesic action for over-the-counter use.
