Drug intelligence / Profile preview
NuShield is a dehydrated human placental allograft tissue product used as a protective barrier and extracellular matrix (ECM) scaffold to support the body's natural healing process. It consists of the complete amnion and chorion layers of the placental membrane, including the spongy layer, preserved using a proprietary LayerLoc preservation method that retains all native layers. The tissue is collected from fully consented mothers undergoing scheduled caesarean section births, screened for communicable diseases, processed aseptically, and terminally sterilized with gamma irradiation. NuShield is shelf-stable at room temperature for up to five years and can be applied to acute or chronic wounds—including those with exposed tendon, muscle, joint capsule, or bone—as well as in various surgical procedures (e.g., soft tissue repair). It acts as a physical barrier that protects wound sites while providing an environment conducive to cellular attachment and growth without significant infiltration or inflammation. The product is naturally resorbed into the wound over time[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8].
