Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Nutricia PreOp Drink is a clear, lemon-flavored, iso-osmolar carbohydrate drink designed for preoperative nutritional management. Manufactured by Nutricia (a Danone company), it contains maltodextrin and fructose as primary active ingredients, providing 12.6g of carbohydrates per 100ml. The drink is intended to transition surgical patients from a catabolic fasted state to an anabolic fed state prior to anesthesia, which helps moderate the metabolic response to surgery, reduce postoperative insulin resistance, and improve patient comfort. It is classified as a Food for Special Medical Purposes (FSMP) and is free from fat, protein, fiber, gluten, and lactose. In clinical research, such as the TIPS trial, it has been investigated for its ability to improve recovery times and reduce pain in patients undergoing major abdominal surgeries, including those for ovarian and fallopian tube cancers.
