Overview

Nutrineal is a sterile, non-glucose-based peritoneal dialysis solution containing 1.1% amino acids and electrolytes, used as an alternative to dextrose-based solutions for patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis. Its primary indication is the treatment of protein malnutrition in chronic renal failure patients on peritoneal dialysis, especially those at risk for poor nutrition or with low albumin levels[2][3][7]. The solution provides a blend of essential and nonessential amino acids that are absorbed during the dwell period and serve as substrates for protein synthesis, helping to compensate for unavoidable losses of protein and amino acids into dialysate[2][6]. By improving plasma amino acid profiles and supporting nutritional status, Nutrineal can reduce complications such as peritonitis and hospitalization duration in this patient population[2]. It does not contain glucose but achieves similar osmotic power to standard 1.5% glucose solutions used in dialysis[6]. Developed by Baxter.
