Overview

NV-387 is a host-mimetic, direct-acting, broad-spectrum antiviral nanomedicine developed by NanoViricides. It is designed to mimic the sulfated proteoglycan (S-PG) features present on human cells that over 90% of pathogenic viruses use for cell entry. By presenting these S-PG-like ligands, NV-387 acts as a decoy or "chemical nanomachine," binding and neutralizing virus particles before they can infect cells. This mechanism provides a high barrier to viral resistance because it targets a conserved cellular attachment process rather than mutable viral proteins. Preclinical studies have shown that NV-387 demonstrates strong activity against multiple respiratory viruses—including RSV (respiratory syncytial virus), influenza viruses, coronaviruses (including SARS-CoV-2/COVID), and orthopoxviruses (such as mpox/smallpox)—often outperforming or matching existing approved antivirals in animal models. The drug has completed Phase I clinical trials with no reported adverse events and is advancing into Phase II trials for several indications. NV-387’s ultra-broad-spectrum potential positions it as a platform technology for treating diverse viral infections where current therapies are limited or ineffective[1][2][3][4][5][6].
